Pinellas Preparatory Academy is proud to offer various sports activities and team for our students to participate in. Joining a sports team is a privilege, and as such, parents and students need to be aware of several important points before considering joining a sports team.
First, parents and students should closely follow the sports schedule. Typically a schedule for the season is handed out during parent meetings, additionally all practices and games are listed on the school’s online calendar which can be found at http://www.pinellasprep.org/calendar
You can find additional information regarding the schedules, and maps to all of the addresses where games will be played by visiting the sports page on the website at http://www.pinellasprep.org/sports
At the parent meeting you will receive a packet of information. That packet will include permission slips, calendars and volunteer forms. Please return the forms as soon as possible. Additionally, a $50 non-refundable participation fee will be due. Parents who intend to drive students to or from games will need to submit a copy of their driver’s license and car insurance.
Please note that the participation fee is non-refundable, if your student is dismissed or suspended from the team due to school behavior or academic performance, the fee will not be returned.
Students should remember they are representatives of the school, and should behave as such. On game days, players should wear their uniforms to show team spirit.
Students are required to maintain good grades in order to participate in sports. This means that they must have at least a C average in all classes. Grades are checked at mid-quarter progress reports and report cards. If a player’s grade falls below a C, than a one-week probation period is mandatory. Players who are on probation must still practice and attend the games, but will not be allowed to play until approved by the coach.
Practice attendance is mandatory. Please notify your coach is you are sick and cannot attend the practice or game. Players may not attend the game if they have not been at school for at least half the day on game day.
Players are required to maintain positive behavior at school. If a student receives a referral they are on probation for 15 days. If the student is suspended, then the probation is 30-days long. If the student receives a COA, they will be required to do extra running at practice.
All players will meet on the side door at 3:00! There will be no wandering in the hallways! Do not exit the building until the coach is there. Roll will be taken. Students should also remember to check out with aftercare if they typically attend aftercare. Parents, please do not take your child without them checking in and being assigned to your car!
Students should cheer for all of PPA’s Teams, boys or girls! It is not a competition between boys and girls, we are one school who cheer for each other!
Parents must sign your child out from practice and games.
Parents, please stay on the parent side of the field, not on the sidelines.
Please remember that the office and aftercare are not information-desks. Please keep your schedules and school address with you, so that you do not need to bother the office with requests.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Romaine, the sports coordinator, at bromaine@pinellasprep.org or 727-536-3600 ext. 218.
